We want to spread sustainable knowledge!

Our vision is to create a world where everyone has the knowledge and tools they need to live sustainably.

Our story: The Climate Call card game was founded by 4 climate-interested friends at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, in 2018, with the mission to spread knowledge about climate, lifestyle and sustainable consumption in a fun, engaging and hopeful way.

Our ambition is for the Climate Call card game to be a fun, educational, and engaging experience that gives new insights about the climate impacts of the things we consume. We also want it to be an easy way to start important conversations about responsibility and how our behavior affects the planet.

All you need to get started is a deck of cards and two or more players over the age of 12!

How to play Climate Call

  • Game idea and game rules →

The cards should be placed in the correct order - from the smallest to the largest climate impact.

To get rid of a card, it has to be placed in the right place in relation to other cards.

The first team to get rid of all their cards wins.

A round takes about 10–20 minutes and is played by 2–4 teams with 1–3 players in each team.

    Recommended age: 12+

  • 1. Preparations

    1. Shuffle the cards and deal three cards to each team.

    2. The teams place the cards in a row in front of them with the dark blue side up.

    3. Place the remaining cards in a pile with the dark blue side up.

    4. Turn over the top two cards from the pile and place them next to each other with the back (where the emission number is written) facing up, in the middle of the table. These cards form the basis of the emission line.

  • 2. The game's "emission line"

During the course of the game, the cards are laid out next to each other, so that they form a line: the emission line.

The cards shall be placed in order from smallest to largest climate impact.

The more cards that are laid out, the longer the emission line becomes, which makes it more difficult to place new cards in the right place.

  • 3. The course of the game

The team with the player who last took the train may start. The team chooses one of their three cards (without turning it over) and guesses where on the emission row it should be placed.

The card is then turned over so that the emission figure becomes visible:

    A) If the team guessed correctly, the card is placed on the emission line and the turn goes to the next team.

    B) If the team guessed wrong, the card is put away. The team then takes the top card from the pile and places it in front of them with the dark blue side up. Then the turn goes to the next team.

  • 4. The winner of the game

The first team to get rid of all their cards wins.

When a team has placed all its cards on the emission line, the round is completed, ensuring that all teams make the same number of moves.

If more than one team gets rid of their cards in the same round, the game continues one round at a time: each team draws a new card from the pile, until only one team succeeds in placing its card correctly - that team wins the game!

✓ Tip: Increase the difficulty by starting with more cards and/or keep misplaced cards on the emission line (but put them in the right place). The team that guessed wrong still gets to take a new card.

Some common questions

How have the CO2 emission values on the playing cards been calculated?

To calculate the emission values on the cards, we have used a calculation model developed by researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Most data used in the calculations come from scientific articles, reports from authorities and research institutions, and statistical databases.

In some cases, the calculations are based on educated estimates and reasonable assumptions. All calculations are based on the most up-to-date data available, and the accuracy of the calculated emissions has been validated by comparing them with other published figures.
